Man rescued from burning Oceanside beachfront home

A man in his 20s was rescued from a three-story beachfront home that caught fire Tuesday morning, leaving him with smoke inhalation and possible burn injuries, an Oceanside fire official said.

A neighbor called 911 shortly before 10:30 a.m. to report seeing flames coming out a back window of the home on South Pacific Street near Hayes Street, said Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief Wes McGee.

Firefighters from Oceanside and Carlsbad found a smoke-filled living room on the second floor of the building with an unconscious man on a couch, McGee said. Crews quickly got the man out of the house, and he regained consciousness and was talking by time he was in the back of the ambulance.

“There was heavy dark smoke down to the floor and heavy flames coming from the couch,” McGee said.

It took crews less than 15 minutes to rescue the resident and put out the fire, which apparently started in the living room and spread to a bedroom. No damage estimate was available.

The man was taken by ambulance to the UCSD Burn Center to be treated. McGee said his injuries were believed to be moderate.

The cause of the fire was not known, and a fire investigator will try to determine what sparked the blaze, McGee said.
