A man was struck and killed while trying to cross a busy Oceanside thoroughfare Monday night, the second fatal crash in which a pedestrian was killed in the North County city in two days.

The crash happened about 9 p.m., as the man tried to cross Mission Avenue just west of Ocean Pointe Road, Oceanside police Sgt. Clint Bussey said.

The man was about 100 yards outside the crosswalk when he was struck by a gold Nissan Murano headed east on Mission. A second vehicle ran over the man in the road, Bussey said.

The man, who was about 45 years old, died at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of family.

Both drivers pulled over and cooperated with police. Bussey said speed was not a factor in the crash, and the driver who first struck the man was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The fatal collision happened the day after three people in their 20s were struck by a car Sunday evening while crossing Oceanside Boulevard west of College Boulevard about 100 yards from the crosswalk. A 21-year-old man died. His companions were injured but treated at a hospital and released that night.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Officer Ibrahim Serdah at (760) 435-4769.
