A 22-year-old driver died after his car hit a dirt center divider and overturned near Pine Valley on Wednesday, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.
The crash was reported around 11:55 p.m. on Interstate 8 east of Pine Valley Road, Officer Jasmine Lopez said in a news release.
Investigators did not immediately know why the Infiniti sedan drove into the center divider but said the crash caused the car to land on its roof at the bottom of a rock and vegetation embankment, Lopez said.
The driver, a San Diego resident, died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name was not released on Thursday.
It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
