Elvis Presley is getting the spotlight on the big screen once again next year. The trailer for a new upcoming biopic movie, Priscilla, just hit the internet, and it has sent some rippled into the world of the King’s estate.
The picture, which does not yet have a release date, promises to tell the story of the King of Rock and Roll from the perspective of Priscilla Presley, the young woman he met in Germany in 1959.
At the time, Elvis was 24-years-old, while Priscilla was just 14-years-old.
Within a matter of months, she had moved to his home, Graceland in the USA, where they built a life together. They were later married on May 1, 1967, and had a daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
And, although the Sofa Coppola-directed movie is based on Priscilla’s memoir, Elvis and Me, the Elvis Presley estate has reportedly condemned the upcoming biopic.
An Elvis Presley estate official told TMZ the film’s writing and directing is “horrible”.
They added: “It feels like a college movie. The set designs are just horrific, it’s not what Graceland looks like.”
Coppola, who wrote and directed Priscilla, specialises in creating films that focus on intense and complex relationships – so it’s no wonder this Elvis biopic is going to follow suit.
Priscilla herself has a vastly different opinion of the movie about her life, however.
She wrote on Instagram: “I am very excited to see the interpretation of my book by the masterful Sofia Coppola. She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work. I’m certain this movie will take everyone on an emotional journey.”
Australian star Jacob Elordi is taking on the role of Elvis Presley, while American star is playing the titular beau of the King.
During the release of Elvis’ last biopic (Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis), Priscilla spoke out about Elordi playing her late ex-husband.
Priscilla said: “You know, he’s a great actor. He’s a great actor, and I can only imagine him being a nervous wreck like everyone else is. But, I love Sofia. I love her film work, and I think it’ll be fine… I hope!”
Priscilla does not yet have a release date.
