A woman called the police on her sister for throwing away her supplies of baby formula after catching her breastfeeding her son.
The 22-year-old Reddit user said she and her sister gave birth to their children only a few weeks apart and she asked for her sibling’s help after having to undergo surgery shortly after.
She said she returned home one day to discover all the formula she had bought had been binned, with the sister offering to “donate” her own milk to feed her nephew.
The Reddit user wrote: “We had babies within two weeks of each other, and our sons are now 3 and 5 weeks old. Her son is breastfed and mine is not.
“I needed to get surgery recently, and because my son’s father isn’t around, my sister and brother-in-law offered to babysit my son while I was in the hospital (3 days total) free of charge.”

She noted that while she was not upset about the sister breastfeeding the baby, she was angry at her for trashing all her expensive supplies of baby formula just because she did not approve of her using it for her son.
The 22-year-old continued: “When I came home today, I walked into my son on my sister’s breast, which I actually didn’t have an issue with to begin with because it was probably easier to breastfeed him than make bottles but she told me after she had thrown out all of the ‘garbage’ I was feeding him and she was going to pump+donate milk to him.
“I was kind of in shock so I didn’t react straight away but I went to the bathroom and called the police on her.
“Apparently what she did wasn’t a crime, and the child is being fed so they couldn’t even do anything about it.”
The woman said her sister “blew up at me” for getting the police involved and refused to look after her baby unless she was paid.
The angry sister then proceeded to block her and refused to speak to her.
The sisters’ parents intervened and helped the mum-of-one buy two more boxes of baby formula but she said she was unable to substitute the full amount that was thrown away.
The original poster also noted her parents suggested she had overreacted by calling the police as a report would threaten her sister’s career.
She added: “They also think I was a d**k for calling the police on her because getting a record could affect her government job and therefore my nephew.
“There’s no way my sister would have replaced the formula, she is completely against it, and has heen vocal about her dislike for me using it
“My sister did not have a supply already pumped, nor has she even used her pump yet so not only did she not have anything to replace what she threw out, she had no idea how her body would respond to a pump.
“The only way she could have been feeding my son over the next few weeks would be to put him on the boob, which would take time away from me being with him.”
Fellow users were quick to point out that replacing the baby formula would be very expensive and argued the woman had not overreacted.
One user said: “14 cans of formula is no joke. Not the a**hole.” Another joined in: “I know right!? It’s super expensive and depending on what type it is, really hard to find. My cousin can’t produce enough milk for her baby and has been doing both formula and milk to keep that baby fed.”
Another commented: “She just literally dumped hundreds of dollars of formula that YOU BOUGHT because of her own personal opinions on formula. I would have done the same thing, in your situation.”
And another said: “She destroyed your property, and I’m baffled how destroying property is supposed to be ok because she breastfed at that moment.”
