Last year Benedict Cumberbatch returned to the MCU in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness after his supporting role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Since then he’s teased there are plans for more Marvel antics he’ll be shooting next year, but what exactly?
Doctor Strange 2 concluded with the sorcerer’s third eye opening before he was met by Charlize Theron’s Clea, a character from the comics who becomes his lover.
She blamed him for causing incursions and asked him to follow her to the Dark Dimension.
Now Doctor Strange 3’s plot synopsis has reportedly leaked and the upcoming action takes place right after this.
According to The Cosmic Circus’ sources, Doctor Strange 3 will be based on a Marvel Comics run called Time Runs Out. The upcoming MCU sequel, which will reportedly lead right into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will have the sorcerer being sought out by a multiversal organisation called The Black Priests.
Apparently, Clea is a member of the group whose HQ is based in the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, which sits within the spot of two dead universes that suffered an incursion. The insiders claim Doctor Strange will be told that the Multiverse is dying and the cause of the decay is due to incursions across the various realities.
The most recent was caused by the Avenger himself, who we learnt in the previous movie is one of the most dangerous threats to the Multiverse.
Of course, the main reason for the decay will be the incursions caused by the Council of Kangs, who were revealed in the mid-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. They will be the main antagonists in Avengers 5.
Presumably, Doctor Strange 3 will shoot in 2024 for a 2025 release ahead of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2026.
