Royal women have long been known as global fashion icons, and the likes of Princess Kate and Queen Letizia are no exception.
Much like Diana, Princess of Wales, the European royals have become renowned for their iconic wardrobes, filled with elaborate ball gowns, chic summer dresses, and perfectly tailored co-ords.
One sartorial style both Kate and Letizia are clear fans of is a statement jacket.
Whether it be a breasted blazer or a simple button-up style, both royals have made them a firm staple in their look-books.
Of course, they aren’t the only royal women who don the popular garments, but the two appear to have the same idea when it comes to fabrics and colourways.
One of the most notable styles loved by Princess Kate and Queen Letizia is the bold red blazer.
The British Princess owns a mixture of both high-end designs and high-street fashion, including the preppy Zara Textured Double-Breasted Long Blazer in Red, which she debuted in June 2021 and wore more recently in October 2022.
Designed with long sleeves, a lapel collar, and pronounced shoulders, the double-breasted garment is finished with statement gold buttons and flap pockets – much like a style Queen Letizia owns.
In 2011, the Spanish royal donned a tweed red skirt and jacket suit complete with glistening gold threads woven throughout.
More recently, however, the stylish women have taken to more lightweight fabrics and oversized styles.
In May 2023, the Princess of Wales donned an asymmetric tailored crepe suit jacket by Alexander McQueen and red flared trousers to match, costing a total of £2,280.
The bold design flattered her slender figure perfectly and was recreated by Letizia just one week ago at the Fifa Women’s World Cup final.
Her patriotic suit was designed by Hugo Boss and featured a deep red body with a central zip, six black buttons, wide lapels, and shoulder pads.
Letizia’s ensemble resembled outfits Kate had worn on several occasions before with wide trousers, a slightly oversized fit, and a contrasting top underneath the open jacket.
The wide-leg trouser and blazer ensemble has become a staple look in the wardrobes of royal women, most recently given a modern twist with neutral shades.
Both the British Princess and Spanish Queen have swapped bold pastel outfits for beige linens and pure white co-ord as of late.
Earlier in July Kate donned a beige-and-white pinstriped double-breasted jacket by Blaze Milano (£1,457), layered over a plain white T-shirt. Clearly made with summer in mind – from its lightweight linen fabric to its bamboo-style buttons – the jacket was later recreated by Queen Letizia.
She wore an Adolfo Domínguez trouser suit while waving her daughter goodbye as she enrolled at the General Military Academy.
Both jackets have become a seasonal staple, loved by high-street shoppers and royals alike for a more effortless-look.
