Evacuation orders were issued briefly then soon lifted Wednesday as crews battled a fire in the unincorporated area of East County on Wednesday afternoon.
The Millar fire, near Campo and Millar Ranch roads in Rancho San Diego, was about 15 acres shortly before 3 p.m., Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said.
Cornette said crews were “making really good progress.”
County officials initially said the fire had been threatening structures and called for evacuations but lifted that order less than 40 minutes later, at 3:20 p.m.
A separate small fire — three of them, actually — dubbed the Proctor 8 fire was burning in nearby Jamul. They were small and near one another, reached less than an acre, and had not merged. Their cause is under investigation, and Cornette said fire investigators were headed to the scene.
