A student at a Chula Vista middle school was arrested Monday after allegedly taking a gun onto the school’s campus, police said.
The incident was reported just before 11 a.m. at Castle Park Middle School.
A 911 caller reported to police that a student was believed to be in possession of a gun, Chula Vista police officials said in a release.
According to police, other students had tipped off staff members that the student may have had a gun.
A school resource officer responded to the campus and located the student in the school’s administrative building where the child was attending an appointment.
The student “was cooperative with the officer,” searched and found to be in possession of a gun, police said.
The student was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall, police said. Authorities did not release the student’s age, grade or sex.
“There is no indication at this time that the suspected student made threats or pointed the firearm at anyone,” Chula Vista police said in a release.
The department did not release additional information about the firearm.
The incident remains under investigation.
