An off-road vehicle rider died late Sunday morning after colliding with a SUV on state Route 94 in Dulzura, authorities said.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. on the rural highway northwest of Marron Valley Road, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log and a social media post from Caltrans San Diego.
The off-road vehicle collided with a Subaru Crosstrek and the “rider flew off the (vehicle)” onto the right side of the highway, according to the CHP log, which indicated the rider may have also struck a tree.
The crash happened within a mile of Cal Fire San Diego Station 30, and firefighters from the station arrived within minutes, according to the CHP log.
The firefighters performed CPR on the victim, but the person died at the scene, Cal Fire San Diego Capt. Mike Cornette said.
No details about the victim were immediately available.
Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of SR-94 — which is also known as Campo Road — until just before 2 p.m., according to Caltrans.
