A 68-year-old woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle was killed Saturday night when the bike was rear ended by a car that didn’t stop, San Diego police said.
The crash was reported on West Hills Parkway near Carlton Oaks Drive around 7:30 p.m., police said. The collision occurred in the San Diego community of Tierrasanta, near the boundary with the city of Santee.
Officers located the Honda Accord abandoned a short distance from the crash site. Police believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. It was not known if an arrest was made in the case, said police Officer Sarah Foster.
Police said a 33-year-old man was driving the Honda southbound, in the No. 1 lane, when he merged into the No. 2 and rear-ended the three-wheeled Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The 65-year-old man driving the Harley suffered a broken leg and abrasions and was transported to the hospital. His condition wasn’t known. His passenger suffered severe internal bleeding, a brain bleed, broken legs and a lacerated spleen. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
