A driver was killed after her Nissan sedan veered off of the freeway and crashed into a metal pole in the Chollas View neighborhood of San Diego Monday night, according to a California Highway Patrol Officer.
The 63-year-old woman crashed while she was driving on the northbound side of the freeway, transitioning to state Route 94, around 11:45 p.m., CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
The woman suffered major injuries and died at the scene, Castro said. Her name was not released, pending family notifications.
A woman sitting in the right front seat of the car also suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash, investigators said.
The crash is under investigation.
