Could firefighting be in your future? Want to find out?
On Saturday, the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee is hosting a Firefighting Career Expo in Carlsbad. Many California fire departments are actively recruiting, and the weekend event hopes to provide a glimpse into what a firefighting career has to offer.
The expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center on Innovation Way. The location will be opening its doors for the first time on Saturday. The event will also be streamed at YouTube.com/becomingafirefighter.
Expo visitors can try out the Candidate Physical Ability Test, which all firefighters have to pass, and learn more about written tests that must be taken. There will be presentations about life as a first responder, and various firefighting tools will be on display.
Representatives from 23 departments will also be in attendance to talk about how to get hired at their agencies.
The event is free and family-friendly. Attendees can register in advance at the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee website or upon arriving at the event.
