A driver died after his pickup truck veered off the freeway and crashed into a tree in San Diego’s Nestor neighborhood Monday night, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.
The crash occurred around 11:10 p.m. as the man drove a Dodge Ram south on Interstate 5 to the Tocayo Avenue off-ramp. The vehicle veered to the left for unknown reasons and off the roadway, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said in a news release Tuesday.
The impact left car parts, tree limbs and other debris scattered in freeway lanes, according to CHP online traffic logs.
The driver suffered major injuries and died at the scene, Castro said. His name was not released pending notification of his family.
A toxicology report for the driver was pending.
The investigation was ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to call the CHP at (858) 293-6000.
