A Chanel boutique at Fashion Valley mall was targeted twice this month by groups of shoplifters who stole thousands of dollars in designer items, according to San Diego police.
The incidents occurred on Nov. 3 and Nov. 8 at the boutique located inside Nordstrom, Lt. Adam Sharki said Wednesday.
Officials from Chanel, Nordstrom and Simon Property Group, the company that owns Fashion Valley, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
During the first incident, five people walked into the department store around 10:15 a.m. and grabbed high-end purses, Sharki said. Chanel handbags typically cost several thousand dollars each. The thieves ran out of the store and fled before police could arrive.
Five days later, a group of roughly 15 to 20 people came in around noon wearing dark clothing, masks and gloves. They stole handbags and fled the scene in different vehicles.
Sharki said investigators are currently in the process of reviewing security video and collecting evidence. No further information was available.
Police asked that anyone with information about the incident contact police at (619) 531-2000 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
