A driver died after he lost control of his car and crashed while trying to pass multiple vehicles on San Pasqual Valley Road early Thursday evening, San Diego police said.
The crash happened just before 6:20 p.m., as the man was headed west in a Dodge Charger not far east of Bear Valley Road, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.
According to Heims, the driver crossed into eastbound lanes in order to pass vehicles, but his Charger veered left off the road, striking a boulder on the south side.
The Charger flipped over back into the traffic lanes, crossing both of them before going down an embankment on the north side of the road.
The car came to a stop about 200 feet down the embankment, Heims said. The driver died at the scene.
San Diego police traffic officers are investigating.
