El Cajon police have arrested two men on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of two teens at house party in late October, department officials said Tuesday.
Police identified the two men as Bruce Luu, 21, and Dan Nalab, 24, both of San Diego.
Nalab has been in jail since Saturday after Chula Vista police arrested him on an unrelated firearm charge. Luu was arrested Monday by El Cajon police with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the East County Regional Gang Task Force.
Both remained jailed without bail Tuesday and were slated to be arraigned Wednesday in El Cajon Superior Court.
The shootings happened three minutes before midnight Oct. 28 at a home on Mahogany Drive, a cul-de-sac off East Washington Avenue on the eastern end of the city.
Police, responding to several 911 calls, arrived to find several people fleeing the scene of a large party at a short-term rental property. Officers found one victim in the front yard, the other in the street. Both were critically wounded. Each was taken to a trauma hospital, where they died.
El Cajon police said the victims were a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man. However, the department has sealed the Medical Examiner’s Office files on the case and has refused to release the names of the two victims, citing the wishes of the families.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated the two victims were outside of the home when they were confronted and shot. The suspect or suspects fled in a nearby vehicle.
In announcing the arrests, El Cajon police said they used their automated license plate readers to identify the getaway vehicle, a system the department just started using over the summer.
