San Diego State had two players receive conference weekly honors for their performances in the final week of the regular season.
Kicker Jack Browning (West Hills High School) was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking four field goals in SDSU’s 33-18 victory Saturday night over Fresno State at Snapdragon Stadium.
Safety Marcus Ratcliffe (Cathedral Catholic High School) was named Mountain West Freshman Player of the Week after intercepting a pass and making a team-high six tackles against the Bulldogs.
It was Browning’s third MW honor of the season and fifth of his career. His performance — field goals from 32, 39, 41 and 33 yards — tied the school record for most in a game. Browning finished the season 15-for-22 on field goals. He concludes his career with 35 field goals, which ranks eighth in school history.
Ratcliffe, who played all 57 defensive snaps against Fresno State, returned his first career interception 29 yards with four minutes remaining in the first quarter, setting up Browning’s 39-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter.
Ratcliffe this season became the first true freshman to start at the “Aztec” safety position, dating to when SDSU started playing the 3-3-5 defense in 2009. He started 11 of 12 games and finished the season with 51 tackles, which ranked fourth on the team.
