Aljamain Sterling will compete before the year wraps up, but he’ll do so in a grappling match.
Promotional officials announced on Tuesday that Sterling will face Kevin Dantzler in the main event of Fury Pro Grappling 8, which takes place Dec. 30 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia and will stream on UFC Fight Pass.
“Funk Master” competes in his second grappling bout since losing the UFC bantamweight title to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 in August. Sterling most recently defeated UFC veteran Mike Grundy via unanimous decision in a grappling match at Polaris 25 in September, and will look to extract some revenge in his upcoming match.
Dantzler is 5-0 competing for Fury Pro Grappling, including a decision win over Sterling’s longtime teammate Merab Dvalishvili in October 2021.
Other past and present UFC competitors are slated to compete on the card as well, as Alexandr Romanov faces Chris Daukaus, Eryk Anders faces current CFFC middleweight champ Kyle Daukaus, Pat Sabatini battles Niko Price, and Charlie Campbell squares off with Lee Moringo.
