Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Tuesday night in Ramona.
The shooting was reported just before 11:25 p.m. near the intersection of state Route 78 and Haverford Road, sheriff’s Lt. John Spach said.
Someone called 911 to report a shooting, and a male’s voice was heard on the line shouting for help, Spach said.
The call came from a resident near the intersection who heard gunshots, Lt. Joseph Jarjura said in a statement.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.
He has not been identified, Jarjura said.
Fox 5 San Diego video from the scene early Wednesday showed a red pickup parked near the intersection with its doors open. Shell casings were found near the vehicle, the TV station reported.
No other information was immediately available.
