Cars for Cause Car Show
Alpine’s family-owned La Carreta Restaurant presents the first Cars for Cause Alpine Car Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 to support community members with autism. The event features 50 classic cars, a raffle, La Carreta taco cart and bar, a live DJ playing classic rock music, a market and more food and drinks, along with a kids corner to take pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, face painting and children’s activities. Free screening of ‘Babette’s Feast’
The San Elijo LIFE (Learning is for Everyone) group features a screening of the film “Babette’s Feast” (1987, PG) from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 as part of the foreign film series in Room 204 at MiraCosta College’s the San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave. The film, in Danish with English subtitles, is about the “generosity of spirit.” The film revolves around two elderly maiden sisters who hire a French refugee, Babette, as their cook and are rewarded with a “sumptuous French dinner and a magical evening they will never forget.” Free admission and parking in student spaces only (the unmarked spaces) in the SAN-1 and SAN-2 parking lots in front of the 200 Building. ‘A Light in the Darkness’ concert
A winter solstice-themed concert, “A Light in the Darkness,” is at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 presented by San Diego’s SACRA/PROFANA vocal ensemble at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 3459 Manchester Ave. The program features musical selections focusing on themes of peace on earth, including Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem,” in a new chamber orchestration. The concert will be conducted by Krishan Oberoi, SACRA/PROFANA founding director and principle guest conductor and Aaron Burgett, assistant conductor. The concert’s nonprofit partner is the San Diego Diplomacy Council. Advanced reserved seating is $35; $30 for seniors and military; $20 for students. ‘A Jazzy Christmas’ performance

Free interactive Living Nativity
Christ Presbyterian Church hosts a free interactive walk-through Christmas story from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at 7807 Centella St., featuring Mary and Joseph on the way to Bethlehem, baby Jesus in a manger, the innkeeper, shepherds and angels in the field, wise men and Emperor Augustus. Caroling at the plaza

Reduced pet adoption fees
The Rancho Coastal Humane Society will offer a discount on adoption fees through Dec. 17 as part of the Bissell Empty The Shelters Hope Adoption Event, offered at hundreds of shelters across the county. Cher tribute Christmas show
The Cher’d Christmas Show, led by San Diego’s own “Cher,” Debbra Sweet, is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Grand Ritz Theater, 301 E. Grand Ave. The tribute “weaves the magic of Christmas with the empowering legacy of Cher,” along with Sweet’s story of overcoming a severe traumatic brain injury. Lemon Grove Lions Club hosts booth at bonfire
The Lemon Grove Lions Club had a booth at the Local Lemon Grove Community Bonfire on Dec 1. The club offered hot dogs and nachos. The group enjoyed the connecting with the community, which is part of their mission. Proceeds from the sales go to the group’s service projects locally and internationally. Event celebrates Oaxacan culture
The Oceanside Public Library concludes its free series of family-friendly workshops celebrating Oaxacan culture, “Creando Memorias en Oceanside,” with Noche de Calenda at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Civic Center Library courtyard, 330 N. Coast Highway. A local group of chinas oaxaqueñas will showcase their traditional attire as they dance to the sounds and melodies of an Oaxacan band. Tours of Native American archaeological site
The Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center at Pauwai is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 16 and the third Saturday of each month for free docent-led and self-guided tours. Visitors can take tours of the archaeological site where Native Americans lived. Highlights include native gardens, artifacts, ramadas, a replica village and examples of acorn-grinding stations. Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary marks 70th anniversary
Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary held its semiannual meeting and celebrated 70 years serving the community. Featured speakers at the meeting included a 6-year old patient and his parents who shared their story. Hospital and
foundation staff thanked the auxiliary and emphasized how much the auxiliary has contributed to the community. Members of the auxiliary run fundraisers, and advocate and educate on behalf of Rady Children’s Hospital, while making new friends. Community Las Posadas on Dec. 10
Mission Hills United Methodist Church presents Las Posadas at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 with children leading the community in re-enacting the journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for shelter in Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus. The short journey will be narrated in English and Spanish, and the public is invited to join in the procession beginning at the church steps. Participants will walk through the neighborhood and stop at several locations to sing carols before returning to the church for piñatas, crafts and traditional Mexican refreshments. SantaCon in Mission Beach
The second SantaCon at Beach House in Mission Beach is from 1 to 10 p.m. Dec. 16, presented by Almost Nakey, and will transform the beachfront boardwalk into the North Pole. The main stage will become Santa’s Village with LED walls and snow cannons. There will be 50-foot inflatable Santas, Grinches and a “Whoville” along with life-sized snow globes, Club Penguin Igloo Silent Disco, photos with Santa and another entertainment stage inside Belmont Park as well as a Sky Deck’s for VIPs. Dress in your best Santa outfit for the costume contest. This is a 21-plus event. Tickets are $60; $149 for VIP, including rides at Belmont Park. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Toys for Tots. Each ticket includes full access to all the rides at Belmont Park.
Pacificaires to give concert

Pet Parade & Pups in the Pub
The 15th annual Gaslamp Pet Parade & Pups in the Pub Party is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 starting with an expo in the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade. The Gaslamp Quarter will be transformed into a “holiday wonderland filled with the merry pitter-patter of paws.” Highlights include a Holiday Expo from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the promenade, a pet parade at 1 p.m. and the Pups in the Pub Party from 2 to 4 p.m. The festivities kick off in the promenade: a lively marketplace filled with a wide array of pet vendors, animal rescues, photo ops and games. Judging will take place at the time of registration where your pet can be up for categories like “Best Christmas Spirit,” “Best Matching Costumes” and the prestigious “Best in Show.” The parade will take off under the Gaslamp Quarter Archway at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and L Street. Special needs early access at Fleet Science Center
Early access to the Fleet Science Center for community members who need a low-sensory experience is at 9 a.m. Dec. 16 as part of Accessibility Mornings offered the third Saturday of the month at the center, 1875 El Prado, in Balboa Park. Visitors can view galleries in a quieter setting, an hour before the museum opens to the public, and a special documentary screening with lights on and lower volume is at 10 a.m. Admission is free for one guest and one chaperone. San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and Dec. 17, the procession of decorated boats will be arriving off the shore of the San Diego Bay. This year’s San Diego Bay Parade of Lights theme is “Christmas Traditions Around the World.” The parade takes a little over an hour to pass any given point along the parade route, including Shelter Island (start of parade) at 5:30 p.m., Harbor Island at 6:15 p.m., the Embarcadero at 6:45 p.m., Seaport Village at 7:15 p.m., the pier at Cesar Chavez Park at 7:30 p.m. and Coronado Ferry Landing at 7:45 p.m. (Times are approximate). Concert band puts on holiday concert

Santa’s Sleigh Ride Parade
Back by popular demand, the city of Solana Beach and the Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Commission host Santa’s Sleigh Ride Parade from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 15. Santa will be riding along with fire, sheriff’s and Marine safety personnel. The sleigh ride will start and end at the Solana Beach Fire Station, 500 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. SPRING VALLEY
Enchanted Village features holiday wonderland
Noah Homes hosts its Enchanted Village from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 15 through Dec. 22 at 12526 Campo Road. Guests can stroll through 8 acres of lighted trees and tunnels, giant candy canes and interactive displays, and enjoy live music. Santa will be at the Enchanted Village nightly for photos. No pets allowed (only service animals). Tickets are $24.99; $14.99 for ages 2-12. Noah Homes is a nonprofit that provides housing and care to people with developmental disabilities. Hanukkah celebration, holiday events at senior center
A Hanukkah celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 13 and a holiday Jingle & Mingle will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Gloria McClellan Senior Center’s Park Terrace Cafe, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive. In addition, a Holiday Picture Day will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 15, and a Toe Tappers & Tapas program is from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 18 at the center. A $4 contribution for lunch is suggested for guests 60 and older; $8 fee for guests 59 and younger. Lunch is at noon. Holiday Luncheon and Magic Show
The Woman’s Club of Vista, which is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, hosts a Holiday Luncheon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13 at Shadowridge Golf Club. Along with a festive lunch there will be a holiday trivia game and performance by Amazing Dana the Magician. Heroes of Vista nominations sought
Nominations are being accepted for the 2024 Heroes of Vista Gala. The event honors “people doing great things for the Vista community,” including educators, community members and businesses. Joy Walkers Club meets Dec. 13
The Gloria McClellan Senior Center started a new walking club, the Joy Walkers, offering exercise, socializing and time in nature. The next walk is from 9 to about 10 a.m. Dec. 13. The club will walk along the Vista Conservancy Trail and the walk ends at Fire Station 6. The trail is 1.5 miles long, and the group sets their own pace. Pets Without Walls holds Mobile Pet Clinic
Pets Without Walls helps the pets of homeless people or low-income families and will host a mobile pet clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Gloria McClellan Senior Center, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive. Services provided include health checks, preventative medical care, vaccinations, and flea and tick medication. An appointment is required and can be made by calling (858) 756-4117, ext. 339. History museum closes for the holidays
The Vista Historical Museum and the museum office will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 15 to Jan. 2. The office will reopen Jan. 2, and the museum will reopen Jan. 3. Visit vistahistoricalsociety.com.
