A man was struck and killed by a car while he was walking across the street in Ramona Sunday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
Officers responded to the southbound side of state Route 67 near 14th Street around 6:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian, Officer Jared Grieshaber said in a news release.
Investigators learned the man had been crossing the street despite the “Don’t Walk” illuminated sign at the crosswalk, Grieshaber said. A 23-year-old woman driving south on the road then crashed into him.
His name was not released pending notification of his family.
The woman’s Nissan sedan went off the road, overturned and came to rest against a Bank of America building at the corner.
The woman stayed at the scene. She is not believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, Grieshaber said.
