Carlsbad police are asking for the public’s help to identify the person or persons responsible for a possible gang-related shooting two weeks ago that left two people riding in a car injured.
The possible car-to-car shooting was discovered after police were called on Dec. 13 shortly after 9:15 p.m. about a vehicle crash and gunshots being heard on Alga Road between El Fuerte Street and Xana Way.
When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle that had crashed into an embankment, police said. No other car was around, said Carlsbad Lt. Eric Kovanda.
Police and paramedics rendered medical aid and transported the victim to a hospital.
Police said two other people who had been in the car during the shooting had walked away from the vehicle, including one who had been shot, Kovanda said. The two turned up at a hospital.
The two shooting victims and the third person were all between the ages of 19 and 23. Their injuries were not life threatening.
Police said evidence suggests the victims’ vehicle was fired upon from a second vehicle. No vehicle or suspect descriptions were released. None of the victims was from Carlsbad.
Crime Stoppers said there is a reward of up to $1,000 being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case. Tips can be called in to an anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477 or by visiting sdcrimestoppers.org.
