A 60-year-old driver from Anaheim was killed and her passenger, also 60, was injured Saturday when she lost control of her SUV on southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista and crashed through a guardrail, authorities said.
The driver was heading south on I-805 around 10:25 a.m. when for unknown reasons she slammed into a concrete wall on the overpass and crashed through a guardrail, sending her SUV plunging onto the street below, authorities said.
Emergency crews found the vehicle on East Naples Street near Nacion Avenue. The driver, an Anaheim resident, died before she could be taken to a hospital. Her name was not immediately released.
Her passenger, who also lives in Anaheim, was transported to the hospital with major injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro.
Castro said a toxicology report will be done by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if alcohol/and or drugs were a factor in the fatal crash.
