Authorities have identified an Anaheim woman who died Saturday morning after the SUV she was driving crashed off a freeway overpass in Chula Vista, injuring her passenger.
Veronica Romo Sandoval, 61, was headed south on Interstate 805 in a Nissan Xterra when she lost control of the SUV for unknown reasons on a freeway overpass around 10:25 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The SUV slammed into a concrete wall on the right side of the overpass, crashed through a guardrail and plunged onto East Naples Street below, California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said.
Sandoval died at the scene, where the SUV came to a rest on its roof. Her passenger, a 60-year-old Anaheim man, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
