A fire destroyed a 3,800-square-foot house in Alpine Tuesday, displacing a multi-generation family that lived in the home, a fire official said.
The blaze was reported around noon at the two-story home on La Force Road near South Grade Road, said Alpine Fire Marshal Jason McBroom. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from several areas of the house.
No one was home at the time.
Crews took an offensive approach to the blaze and called a second alarm, requesting additional resources after the fire reached the attic.
It did not spread to nearby brush or threaten any other homes, he said.
In all, around 50 firefighters from Alpine, Viejas, Lakeside, El Cajon, Santee and Sycuan fire departments and Cal Fire responded.
Crews had the flames knocked down around 3 p.m., McBroom said. The home was a total loss.
No damage estimate was available and McBroom said it was too early to know the cause of the fire.
He said there were members of five families staying in the home — a grandfather, his children and several grandchildren. He said he did not know how many people were displaced.
