A 53-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of gravely injuring his mother in the rural, southeast community of Jamul, a sheriff’s official said.
Fire crews were first summoned to the home on Hillside Estates Drive east of Campo Road over reports of a medical emergency. But when firefighters arrived, they determined the 77-year-old woman had likely suffered a physical assault and called sheriff’s deputies about 1:30 p.m., sheriff’s homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura said.
The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition, Jarjura said Saturday.
After conducting their investigation, deputies arrested the woman’s son, Travis Bodle. He was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder. It’s unclear what fueled Bodle’s alleged actions.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the department’s Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477.
