Plan your trips around San Diego carefully this weekend. Various stretches of freeway around the city will be closed for maintenance and construction work, including a new walking bridge that crosses state Route 163.
The first two projects are slated to begin early Saturday in Kearny Mesa and Hillcrest, Caltrans officials said.
From 2 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, maintenance crews will close one to two lanes of eastbound state Route 52 at Convoy Street to repair dips in the highway and level the roadway.
And from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday, crews will also be working on a new pedestrian bridge that crosses SR-163 and Sixth Avenue on- and off-ramps and connects to Scripps Mercy Hospital.
Closures will affect eastbound Interstate 8 drivers on the on-ramp from Hotel Circle South or connecting to southbound SR-163, Caltrans officials said. The southbound and northbound SR-163 off-ramp to Sixth Avenue/University Avenue will also be closed during the work.
The third project, slated to begin Sunday, will close the southbound Interstate 5 connector to eastbound state Route 94 Sunday through Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for concrete barrier work, officials said.
The maintenance work schedule can change due to weather, traffic incidents or other maintenance considerations.
