A man’s body was found inside a burned-out cargo van just north of the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday, according to San Diego police.
Firefighters responded to a report around 11 a.m. of a burning vehicle at the Tijuana River Valley Sports Complex on Sunset Avenue near Hollister Street, said Lt. Daniel Meyer in a news release.
After the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found slumped over, partially in the van, Meyer said.
Authorities were working to identify him, and his name will not be released until family can be located and notified.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and are investigating the circumstances around his death, while the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine his cause of death. It remained unclear if the man suffered any traumatic injuries.
Fire Department investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
