One person was killed and a second person was injured in a shootout at a Grantville apartment complex Friday night, San Diego police said.
The gunfire erupted about 8:50 p.m. at a complex on Alvarado Canyon Road just east of Mission Gorge Road, said San Diego police Officer D. Abernathy. The complex appears to be new, and is near a trolley stop along the road and just north of Interstate 15.
Abernathy said the initial reports indicate the shootings happened on the second floor of the complex near some some sort of clubhouse or recreation area.
Two people were taken to hospitals for treatment. One died at the hospital, and authorities were waiting for an update on the condition of the other, the officer said.
Abernathy said police detained several people in the aftermath of the shooting, but the investigation was still fresh and it was unclear if any would be arrested.
Homicide investigators have also been called to the scene.
No further information was immediately available.
