A woman was found dead after a fire tore through a home in the El Cajon area early Friday, sheriff’s officials said.
The blaze was reported about 1 a.m. on North First Street near East Bradley Avenue in the Bostonia community.
Deputies and firefighters arrived in minutes and found the home engulfed in flames, sheriff’s Detective Dan Wilson said in a statement.
Four residents told first responders an “elderly woman” might still be in the house, and firefighters entered the burning home to look for her, Wilson said. The woman was found in a bedroom, and was declared dead.
Fire investigators determined the blaze started in the bedroom where the victim was found, but the cause of the fire remains under investigations. Wilson stated the fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
