A driver who allegedly collided head on with another vehicle in Bonsall Sunday night, killing the other vehicle’s passenger, was arrested on suspicion of murder and driving under the influence of alcohol, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The crash was reported around 11:25 p.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado heading east on Gopher Canyon Road near Hoxie Ranch Road swerved into oncoming traffic, CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said in a news release.
The pickup truck — driven by a 29-year-old woman — collided head on with a westbound Toyota Camry, Gerber said. The sedan’s driver, a 51-year-old woman, and her 53-year-old male passenger suffered major injuries.
Paramedics arrived and took the two drivers and sedan’s passenger to a hospital, where the passenger died.
His name has not been released pending notification of his family.
Investigators said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The pickup’s driver was released from the hospital and arrested on several allegations, including suspicion of murder, felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
