A 71-year-old man killed in a shooting Friday night which may have occurred after a traffic dispute has been identiifed as Bryan Robert Hugo of Vista, officials said.
Hugo was shot at least once around 8 p.m. near the state Route 78 on- and off-ramps at Sycamore Avenue, officials said.
Investigators said Sunday that Hugo may have been shot following an incident with another driver. The circumstances behind the shooting remain under investigation.
Hugo was found by a Carlsbad police officer, and paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died.
Shortly after the initial call went out, California Highway Patrol officers in the area spotted a vehice they believe may have been involved in the incident, according to sheriff’s homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura.
As the driver fled, his car allegedly hit other vehicles. Sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle east on SR-78 and into San Marcos, where it was stopped.
Two people in the vehicle were arrested. The driver, 19-year-old Joseph Freddy Cedillo, was later booked into jail on suspicion of murder. His 18-year-old passenger was booked on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime.
“There are no outstanding suspects or danger to the community that we are aware of,” Jarjura said.
