SAN DIEGO —
A man seen running against traffic on the right shoulder of Interstate 5 was hit by a vehicle and died near downtown San Diego Tuesday morning, officials said.
The collision happened around 5 a.m. on southbound I-5 just north of Imperial Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol online log.
A witness told a CHP dispatcher the man was not wearing a shirt and was seen along the shoulder before he was struck.
A traffic alert was issued and several freeway lanes were shut down as officers worked to investigate the incident.
The driver who struck the man stopped and cooperated with the CHP. The motorist was not injured.
