IMPERIAL BEACH —
Seven people, including one minor, were detained by Border Patrol agents after a suspected smuggling boat landed Tuesday morning in Imperial Beach, officials said.
A Customs and Border Protection helicopter spotted the boat crossing the maritime border into U.S. territorial waters around 6 a.m., according to Eric C. Lavergne, an agency spokesperson.
Federal officials monitored the vessel as it headed north along the coast until it landed on the shore near Cortez Avenue and Sea Coast Drive, where six adults and the minor got off the boat, Lavergne said.
Agents seized the vessel, arrested the group and took them to a Border Patrol station for processing.
