A 35-year-old motorcycle rider was killed Saturday evening when a pickup driver, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, turned into his path near the Oak Park and Ridgeview/Webster neighborhoods, San Diego police said.
It happened around 7:25 p.m. as the victim was heading south on Euclid Avenue toward state Route 94 on a 2021 Harley-Davidson, according to a statement from Office John Buttle.
At the same time, a 58-year-old man driving a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup was heading north on Euclid and attempted to turn left onto Lyon Street, Buttle said. The driver turned into the path of the motorcyclist and the rider collided with the truck.
Medics took the gravely injured rider to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, Buttle said. His name was not released.
Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Buttle said. The department’s traffic division is investigating the crash.
