RAMONA —
A driver died Tuesday night after crashing her car into a large rock and tree in Ramona, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 39-year-old woman was heading east on state Route 78 west of Earlham Street around 6:45 p.m. when the Honda Civic she was in veered off the north side of the highway, said CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber.
The car struck the rock and tree, then overturned, Grieshaber said. It then when down an embankment into a chain link fence and came to rest on its roof.
The driver died before she could be taken to a hospital. Her name was not released pending notification of her family.
Drugs or alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, Grieshaber said.
