The driver and his passenger who died after the car they were in slammed into two parked vehicles Friday night have been identified as National City residents, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Robert Casillas, 33, was driving Victor Arrellano Bacallo, 46, in a Kia sedan northbound on D Avenue near East 18th Street in National City when he lost control of the car around 10:50 p.m., according to county officials. The car overturned multiple times and slammed into two cars parked on the opposite side of the street.
Investigators said they believe Casillas was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash and that Bacallo was not wearing a seat belt.
Both men died before they could be taken to a hospital.
California Highway Patrol investigators said Sunday it was not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
The crash is under investigation.
