Sheriff’s officials are looking for a suspected arsonist who they say lit several small fires inside a Spring Valley home Tuesday evening.
One person suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation in the fire, which was reported around 7:35 p.m. at the home on Sacramento Avenue near Piedmont Street in the La Presa neighborhood, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Sheriff’s officials said they received a call from a resident who reported that his or her house was on fire. Firefighters from San Miguel Fire & Rescue Department responded and found several small fires in several rooms in the house.
The people inside the home were safely evacuated. One person was medically evaluated on scene for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Sheriff’s bomb/arson unit detectives were called in and determined the fire began in a bedroom in the house and was deliberately set. A detective in the unit said it is not clear why the fire was set. He declined to release much more information, citing the ongoing investigation.
Detectives identified a 54-year-old man as a suspect.
