Keanu Reeves made another memorable appearance at a gaming showcase to introduce Idris Elba’s role in the first expansion to Cyberpunk 2077.
The Matrix and John Wick star stole the show at E3 four years ago, where he revealed he would be starring in the then highly-anticipated title.
But the game quickly went down in infamy after a disastrous launch in December 2020, with the number of bugs, glitches, and refund requests leading to it being removed from Sony’s PlayStation Store.
Polish developer CD Projekt Red has managed to revive the game and its own reputation since then, and Reeves reprised his role as chief hype man at an Xbox event on Sunday.
The Canadian actor, who plays Johnny Silverhand, introduced a cinematic trailer for the game’s debut expansion, Phantom Liberty, which also stars British actor Elba.
It will see the player’s character team up again with Silverhand to take on a “dangerous spy city” in a new area of the blockbuster game’s Night City called Dogtown.
Reeves promised a “massive expansion” with “twists, secrets, and plenty of stuff to do”.
It will task returning players with rescuing the president of the New United States of America, Reeves revealed, with Luther star Elba in the role of a secret agent.
CD Projekt Red, the team behind the popular Witcher games, will no doubt be hoping its launch goes more smoothly than the main game when it arrives on 26 September.
Unlike the original release, Phantom Liberty will not be available on the less powerful PS4 and Xbox One consoles, instead only releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
