When tourists crowd San Diego’s beaches, have you considered flying north for the summer? Now, there’s another option.
Alaska Airlines announced Friday it’s adding a seasonal, nonstop flight between San Diego and Anchorage, Alaska, next summer.
The seasonal service begins May 18, 2024, and ends on Aug. 17. Tickets are on sale now for the new weekly routes on Alaska’s 737 airplanes.
It will be the only nonstop service option on any airline for trips between San Diego and Alaska, according to the San Diego Airport Authority. The new seasonal offering marks Alaska Airline’s 38th nonstop destination from San Diego.
The nonstop flight will take about five and a half hours. That saves travelers some time compared to the seven to 10 hours it takes on flights with stops.
The Saturday flights depart Anchorage at 2:50 p.m. and arrive in San Diego at 9:10 p.m. The flights depart San Diego at 9 a.m. and arrive in Anchorage at 1:45 p.m.
In addition to adding seasonal nonstop flights to and from San Diego this summer, Alaska Airlines announced daily nonstop service between New York John F. Kennedy Airport and Anchorage.
“Alaskans love nonstop flights to and from the state. We like having great travel options and adding places such as New York and San Diego definitely fit the bill,” said Marilyn Romano, regional vice president for Alaska Airlines in the announcement. “During our peak summer days, we’ll have a robust flight schedule of 63 departures a day from Anchorage.”
