American Express has introduced a new digital waitlist feature for its popular Centurion Lounges, aiming to tackle the frustration of long queues.
The feature, now available at all US Centurion Lounges, allows credit card holders to join a virtual line through the Amex app, saving time and hassle.
Using the app, eligible cardholders, such as Platinum or Business Platinum members, can join the waitlist remotely while heading to the airport.
They’ll receive a notification when it’s their turn to enter, with a 15-minute window to check in and no need to physically queue or present a card.
Amex rolled out this update following a successful trial at select locations. While the system doesn’t eliminate overcrowding, it makes lounge access more convenient and reduces the frustration of waiting.
Experts note that overcrowding remains a challenge, but this process is a welcome improvement for travelers seeking a more luxurious airport experience.
How it works
- Log into the Amex app and select your eligible card.
- Navigate to the “Membership” tab and choose your airport’s Centurion Lounge.
- If space is available, click “Get Eligibility Code” for immediate access. If the lounge is full, join the waitlist.
- You’ll be notified when it’s your turn, with a QR code for entry.
In addition to this lounge improvement, Amex is also enhancing benefits for Platinum Cardholders with some exciting new perks in the new year.
Starting in January 2025, cardmembers will receive up to £400 back annually when dining at participating UK and international restaurants.
This includes £100 for qualifying restaurant purchases every six months, which Amex says doubles the previous dining credit. Over 2,000 restaurants are on the list, including popular spots like Berenjak Soho and Tattu Manchester.
To be eligible to receive the credits, cardmembers must enrol for the benefit in the Amex Offers section of their App or Online Account when the new offer launches in early January.
