A man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping Wednesday after allegedly trying to pull a child into his vehicle in Escondido, police said.
The child was walking to Pioneer Elementary School on Ash Street about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle pulled up and the driver tried to pull the child inside, police Lt. Ryan Hicks said. The child was able to escape and ran to school to report the encounter, Hicks said. The child was not hurt. Police did not release additional information about the child.
The vehicle was described as a dark green four-door sedan.
After a day of investigating and developing leads in the case, detectives located the suspect car driving on Auto Parkway near Andreasen Drive Wednesday morning, Hicks said. Its driver, a 27-year-old Escondido resident, was arrested during a high-risk vehicle stop.
