At least three people were shot when a man opened fire inside an El Cajon dental office Thursday afternoon, according to police.
Fox 5 reported one person had died.
The department tweeted Thursday afternoon that it was still searching for the suspected gunman, who it identified as Mohammed Abdulkareem, 29.
“He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him call 911,” police wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The shooter took off in a white U-haul pickup truck with Arizona license plate AM14894, the department wrote on X. He was last seen northbound on North Mollison Avenue.
The shooting was reported about 4:20 p.m. in a building on Magnolia Avenue at Madison Avenue, scanner traffic indicates.
The traffic indicated that several minutes after the shooting was reported, a person with three gunshot wounds came out of the building and into a nearby alley.
The site is a Smile Plus Dentistry office. Dozens of police vehicles were at the scene and several officers were in and outside of the building. Several other officers were seen canvassing the area, going door to door at nearby homes and businesses.
Marshall Cloud, who lives in an apartment just down the street from the dentist office, said he didn’t hear any gunshots. But when he walked up to the scene, he said he saw first responders giving medical aid to a man lying on the sidewalk.
“I don’t think he made it,” Cloud said while standing just outside the crime scene tape. “They took him away in ambulance.”
No further information was immediately available.
