A 45-year-old man riding a bicycle sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a sedan on an Encinitas road Wednesday, sheriff’s officials said.
The incident was reported after the eastbound Hyundai Elantra — driven by a 79-year-old woman — collided with the bicyclist around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and Cerro Street, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.
The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, Collis said. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators said drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the collision.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Investigators asked anyone with information or camera footage of the incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (760) 966-3555 or via email at jeremy.collis@SDSheriff.org.
