Authorities closed down both directions of Interstate 5 in La Jolla Thursday morning after a person threatened to jump off a freeway overpass, officials said.
Both directions of I-5 were closed at La jolla Village Drive just before 7:30 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol is requesting drivers use state Route 52 or state Route 56 if possible, a CHP dispatcher said.
The first 911 call about person was reported just before 6:50 a.m., according to the CHP’s online log.
San Diego police are talking with the person, a police spokesperson said.
Shortly before 7:15 a.m., CHP officers began diverting traffic, and at 7:29 a.m. a traffic alert was issued as both directions of the freeway were shut down.
