A 6-year-old boy was struck by a slow moving vehicle and seriously injured Saturday afternoon near Kate Sessions Park in Pacific Beach, San Diego police said.
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. while the boy was running across Soledad Road toward the park and was struck by a 75-year-old driver, Officer John Buttle said in a statement.
According to police, the boy was standing next to his mother as she unpacked items from her parked vehicle when he spotted his father on the other side of the street. He ran into the roadway in front of the driver and was hit.
Medics took the boy to a hospital for treatment of a broken pelvis, Buttle said. The injury was not expected to be life-threatening.
Investigators said the driver was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and detectives from the department’s traffic division are investigating.
