British Gas has announced it will hold its first Green Flex event of the year tomorrow, offering customers half-price electricity between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on March 6. This initiative is part of the energy provider’s ongoing effort to encourage more sustainable energy usage.
The Green Flex event takes advantage of windy conditions expected to increase renewable energy, allowing British Gas to offer a discounted rate during a two-hour window. Customers who have opted into the programme will benefit from the reduced electricity prices, which are part of the company’s PeakSave Green Flex scheme.
PeakSave Green Flex events are designed to allow customers to save on their energy bills by using electricity during periods of high renewable energy generation, such as when it’s particularly windy or sunny. The events are announced in advance, with customers receiving emails notifying them of the specific time slots.
Green Flex events are in addition to British Gas’ usual PeakSave Sunday scheme, which offers half-price electricity on Sundays between 11am and 4pm.
This allows thousands of customers to save on household activities like washing clothes, cooking, or catching up on television during the discounted window.
British Gas uses its forecasting models to schedule these events, aiming to balance energy consumption with grid demand while testing the potential savings. Customers participating in the scheme will see the discount applied as a credit on their energy bills.
Who can get involved?
Households must be British Gas customers with a smart electricity meter to benefit from the half-price savings. Customers must also register for the PeakSave scheme to take part.
New customers can book a free smart meter with half-hourly data and join the scheme here.
The Green Flex events are open to both new and existing PeakSave customers.
Since its launch, the PeakSave initiative has paid over £20 million to more than 800,000 customers, rewarding those who use energy efficiently and support greener energy usage.
For more details on how to participate in tomorrow’s event, customers should check their emails for specific instructions and event times.
