A group of home burglars who crashed their getaway vehicle into a gate before fleeing from sheriff’s deputies were arrested in Rancho Santa Fe Saturday, according to officials.
Deputies received a report around 7:40 p.m. that a group of three burglars was seen breaking into a home Poco Lago near Carmel Valley Road, Lt. Lon Nguyen said in a news release.
Before law enforcement arrived on the ground, a sheriff’s helicopter spotted the burglars fleeing from the home. They jumped into a vehicle waiting nearby and drove away at a high-rate of speed, Nguyen said.
A pursuit began but was quickly called off by deputies because of the high speed.
The chase ended only after the suspects’ vehicle crashed into a gated community’s entrance gate. The suspects ran away from the scene but were found by deputies some time later.
Investigators said they found multiple stolen items inside the vehicle.
The suspects were booked into San Diego Central Jail on various allegations, including suspicion of evading arrest, residential burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, Nguyen said.
