The California Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting on westbound Interstate 8 in La Mesa on Sunday afternoon that left a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound on his forearm.
The shooting took place around 3:35 p.m. on west I-8, east of Grossmont Boulevard, said CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber.
Officers determined at least two shots were fired by a man driving a black Ford Fusion sedan. One of the shots struck the victim, who was driving a red Chysler PT Cruiser.
The victim called 911 after the shooting and was transported to the hospital to be treated for an injury not considered life threatening. Officers shut down a stretch of west I-8 for about 40 minutes as they looked for evidence.
The driver who was injured was the only one in his vehicle. There was a female passenger in the shooter’s car, Grieshaber said.
CHP officers are investigating if any type of road rage proceeded the shooting. They are also investigating if the victim and the gunman knew each other, Grieshaber said.
No other information was immediately available.
